Reiki and Chakra Therapy

Reiki and Chakra Therapy

Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above a person, with the goal of facilitating the person’s own healing response.

Michael C. Murray, DC is trained as a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner utilizing the Usui Reiki System of natural healing.  Reiki can be used as a standalone therapy, or it can be used in conjunction with both massage therapy and chiropractic care.  Click here to schedule a 60-minute session.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation which promotes healing. It is administered through the laying of hands on or just off the body. The word Reiki is made up from two words. Rei means spiritual and Ki means life force energy.

The concept of Reiki is based on the idea that there is an unseen life force energy flowing through us. If our life force energy is low, we are more susceptible to stress and illness. If our life force energy is high, we are more capable of happiness, health, peace and joy.

People use Reiki for self-healing, spiritual growth or self-development, and to treat others. Reiki practitioners carry out meditations, treat themselves, and follow a set of simple spiritual principles called the Reiki ‘precepts’ or principles. Reiki is not a religion.

Dr. Mikao Usui

The healing method of Reiki was discovered and revived by Dr. Mikao Usui in the mid 19th century. It has been said that one day he ascended the sacred mount of Kurama Yama. He fasted and meditated there for 21 days.

At dawn of the last day, he felt a powerful energy moving swiftly toward him. It was then that the Usui method of Reiki healing was developed.

Dr. Usui, who referred to his healing system as Usui Reuiki Ryoho, first self treated himself with Reiki and then his family. Seeing the effectiveness of the Reiki method of healing various diseases, he decided to share his knowledge with the rest of the world.

Any healing system that has these four qualities is considered to be a Reiki healing method:
  • ATTUNEMENT - The ability to give Reiki treatments is acquired by receiving an attunement, rather than one developing the ability over time through the use of meditation or other exercises.
  • LINEAGE - All Reiki healing methods are part of a lineage leading back to the founder of the healing system, meaning that the method has been passed on from teacher to student, over and over.
  • SPIRITUALLY GUIDED - Reiki does not require that the practitioner guide the energy with the mind as it is automatically guided by the intelligence of the Higher or Universal Power.
  • HARMLESS - Since Reiki is a simple technique applied with light pressure or without touching, and since the energy is guided by the higher spiritual power or Universal Power, it can do no harm. The intention of the Reiki practitioner is also very important.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to promote healing.

How can energy heal the body?

Chakras and the Energy Body

The human body has seven primary energy centers called chakras which are located down the midline of the body. The Thymus Chakra (also called the Higher Heart chakra) helps us tune into unconditional love and healing energy.

The word chakra originates from Sanskrit, and it basically means ‘wheel’. Each of the chakras have specific names and have both physical and emotional effects on the body.

When these energy centers are healthy and open, we are also.  We're physically, emotionally, mentally healthy in our relationships with ourselves and others. However, when they're blocked through injury, illness, or stress, we are then blocked from being our best selves. We can feel frustrated, stuck and experience illness, emotional imbalance and a lack of energy.

During childhood and throughout our life experiences, we create constrictions in our chakras as a result of receiving criticism or negativity. We learn early how to protect ourselves from these experiences, and the result can harm us well into our adulthood.

Although psychological therapy can be very beneficial, sometimes we end up missing an essential component – our energetic system. It’s very important to address our underlying energy system, which affects how we live, breathe and express ourselves.

This is where energy healing comes in. Chakra balancing supports the energetic system in clearing the blockages in your energy body which may be effecting your life force in a myriad of subtle ways.
