Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation which promotes healing. It is administered through the laying of hands on or just off the body. The word Reiki is made up from two words. Rei means spiritual and Ki means life force energy.
The concept of Reiki is based on the idea that there is an unseen life force energy flowing through us. If our life force energy is low, we are more susceptible to stress and illness. If our life force energy is high, we are more capable of happiness, health, peace and joy.
The healing method of Reiki was discovered and revived by Dr. Mikao Usui in the mid 19th century. It has been said that one day he ascended the sacred mount of Kurama Yama. He fasted and meditated there for 21 days.
At dawn of the last day, he felt a powerful energy moving swiftly toward him. It was then that the Usui method of Reiki healing was developed.
Dr. Usui, who referred to his healing system as Usui Reuiki Ryoho, first self treated himself with Reiki and then his family. Seeing the effectiveness of the Reiki method of healing various diseases, he decided to share his knowledge with the rest of the world.
The human body has seven primary energy centers called chakras which are located down the midline of the body. The Thymus Chakra (also called the Higher Heart chakra) helps us tune into unconditional love and healing energy.
The word chakra originates from Sanskrit, and it basically means ‘wheel’. Each of the chakras have specific names and have both physical and emotional effects on the body.
Physical: The skeletal structure, teeth, large intestine, kidneys, blood
Emotional: Survival and self preservation
Physical: Womb, genitals, kidney, bladder
Emotional: Creativity, artistic expression, sexuality
Physical: Digestive system, liver,
gall bladder
Emotional: Willpower, confidence, self esteem
Physical: Heart, lungs, circulatory system, arms, hands
Emotional: Love, attraction, compassion and empathy
Physical: Thymus gland
Emotional: Spirituality, connection to the divine
Physical: Throat, ears, mouth, shoulders, and neck
Emotional:
Communication
Physical: Eyes, base of skull, brow
Emotional: Intuition, imagination
Physical: Central nervous system, cerebral cortex
Emotional: Awareness, understanding
Having one or more of these energy fields blocked, or having reduced (or even reversed) flow of energy will negatively affect the physical and emotional attributes associated with that chakra.
